This notice describes how The Hardware Ledger handles information supplied through this website.
Information we collect
Contact, contributor and beta forms collect the information displayed in each form, such as a name, email address, organisation, message, proposal details and consent choices. The site may also receive routine technical and security data through its WordPress.com hosting.
How information is used
Information is used to respond to enquiries, assess submissions, manage beta interest, operate the editorial workflow, secure the site and maintain its services. Newsletter consent is separate and unticked by default.
Storage and sharing
Form submissions are stored as private records in the WordPress database and administrative email notifications contain a link to the private record rather than the submitted message. Access is restricted to authorised site administrators. Hosting and related services may process technical data as described in their own privacy notices.
Calculators and saved profiles
Calculator inputs are processed in the visitor’s browser. Optional UAS profiles and theme preferences are stored locally in that browser and are not submitted to The Hardware Ledger by the calculator plugin.
Your choices
Use the contact page to ask about personal information supplied to the site or to request correction or deletion where applicable. Information is retained only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose collected, site administration, security and applicable obligations.
Averfold purchases and licence support
Added: 20 September 2026. Paid checkout is being prepared. The following explains the purchase and licence-support processing planned for Averfold Standard, in addition to the website processing described above.
The Hardware Ledger (thehardwareledger.com) is responsible for its customer-support and licence-fulfilment records. Contact us at contact@thehardwareledger.com or through the contact form about those records.
Payments and order information
Paid checkout is not open. The payment provider will be confirmed before sales open. For purchases made through Paddle, it acts as merchant of record and processes payment and billing information under its own Privacy Notice. We may receive the customer name and email address, billing location and tax information, order reference, product, amount, currency, payment status and refund status needed to supply the licence, reconcile orders and resolve enquiries. We do not ask you to send card details and do not receive your full card credentials through licence delivery.
We keep the licence identifier, edition, issue details, an order reference and delivery/support history. Licences are emailed manually to the purchase email address. Records and correspondence may be handled by our email and hosting providers; access is limited to those administering the service. Paddle is responsible for its own payment processing, fraud checks and payment records.
Your files stay on your computer
Averfold protects, opens and verifies files locally. Those operations do not send file contents, passphrases or recovery keys to The Hardware Ledger or Paddle. The licence file is verified locally; there is no automatic licence-activation account or customer-file upload service.
If you ask for support, share only the information needed to describe the issue. Diagnostics are saved locally for you to review before you choose to share them. Never send a password, recovery key, private signing key or sensitive document. We do not need them to check an order or replace a licence.
Why we use the information
We use order and contact information to perform the licence supply contract and provide related support; to meet applicable accounting and legal duties; and, where justified, for our legitimate interests in fraud prevention, service security and resolving disputes. Any optional newsletter uses separate consent. Buying a licence does not sign you up to marketing.
Retention and international processing
We retain the minimum order and licence records needed for delivery, licence replacement, support, disputes and applicable accounting or legal retention duties. Licence-verification records may be needed while a licence remains in use. Unneeded support material is removed when its purpose ends, subject to legal obligations. Ask us for the retention criteria relevant to your record.
Our website, email and payment providers may process data outside your country. Their notices describe their locations and transfer arrangements. Contact us about the providers and safeguards relevant to records we hold; Paddle can answer questions about its separate processing.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the processing and applicable law, you can ask to access, correct, erase, restrict or obtain a portable copy of your information. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw optional marketing consent. Some records must be retained to meet legal duties. To exercise your rights, use our contact email above; payment-data requests can also be made directly to Paddle.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or another relevant data-protection authority. We welcome the opportunity to address a concern first, but that is not a condition of complaining.
