Optional sample

Try Open and Verify with a fictional record

The sample ZIP includes a protected record and a walkthrough. Compatible Open and Verify are free; creating your own protected records requires Standard.

Download the optional sample ZIP (23 KB)

Extract the ZIP and read the included guide (index.html or WALKTHROUGH.md) before beginning. Its sample passphrase is deliberately public: never reuse it for private files.

Compatibility note: The sample was checked against the current development source. Acceptance by the installed Microsoft Store build has not been verified. If your app rejects it, stop the sample test. You can report the app version and error wording without sending files, passphrases or recovery keys.

The concept

One protected record. Three deliberate actions.

Averfold separates protection, restoration and integrity checking into clear workflows. Files and passphrases are processed on the computer rather than sent to an Averfold service.

Workflow 01

Protect

Select a file or folder, choose the access method and save a protected record while retaining the original.

Workflow 02

Open

Authenticate the complete protected record before restoring plaintext to a destination you choose.

Workflow 03

Verify

Check the authenticated protected structure without writing restored plaintext to disk.

The process

From installation to verified receipt

  1. Install Averfold. Use the official Microsoft Store listing on a compatible Windows PC.
  2. Activate Standard to protect files. Install your signed Standard licence through Help > Licence. Then choose a file or folder, set a passphrase, optionally create a recovery key, and select the protected destination.
  3. Retain a separate backup. Keep the original or another trusted copy before storing or sharing the protected record.
  4. Open or verify at the destination. A recipient can install Averfold and authenticate a compatible record without buying a protection licence.
  5. Read the result correctly. Verification detects modification of the protected structure; it does not prove who created it or when.
The interface

Three tasks, kept visibly separate

The application keeps the current action, required inputs and output destination in one focused workspace.

Averfold Protect screen for choosing content, access and destination
Protect: choose content, access controls and where to save the protected record.
Averfold Open screen for authenticating and restoring a protected record
Open: authenticate the complete record before restoring plaintext.
Averfold Verify screen for checking integrity without restoring plaintext
Verify: check integrity without writing a restored file.
Access model

Protection is licensed. Access is not held hostage.

Standard licences enable creation of protected records. Recipients can install Averfold and open or verify compatible records without a paid licence.

Licence expiry or licence failure does not block opening, restoration or verification.

Preview boundaries

Averfold Preview has automated security tests and deterministic interoperability vectors, but it has not undergone an independent security audit and is not certified or government approved.

Do not use the Preview for classified information, regulated evidence, or as the only copy of irreplaceable data. A compromised computer can capture credentials or plaintext, and password recovery is unavailable unless a recovery key was created.
